Joan Crawford Superstar

What a delightfully witty play! This is a jam packed 80 minutes!

Joan Crawford Superstar” is a fast-paced inventive play that is sure to be a wonderful time! The dialogue is snappy and the story flies by. It covers so much of her life and presents a Joan not often seen: a youthful upstart you just want to root for. Mature Joan narrates the story of Young Joan, and the result is a well-crafted experience sure to delight audiences!

Flappers! Movie Stars! This is exciting theater…this is a play “Chicago” and “Cabaret” fans will love! The other Joan Crawford stage depiction is the two-actress play “Bette & Joan”, with each of the actresses in their dressing rooms on set while filming “What Ever Happened to Baby Jane.” (This was the same period covered in Ryan Murphy’s “Feud”.) “Joan Crawford Superstar” only mentions this time in passing, choosing to focus on moments across Joan’s life that give a deeper, more nuanced understanding of this powerhouse woman. Instead of a depressing take, this is a glamorous shot of adrenaline!

The script includes a surprising amount of laughs for a biographic piece, including a take on Joan’s “wire hangers” line that will be appreciated by Mommie Dearest fans. It’s a relentlessly fun 80 minutes that will be a great night out at the theater!
